Youth of Purpose
Youth of Purpose is a transitional living and leadership development program for young people ages 14 to 24 who are navigating the transition to independence, including youth aging out of foster care and other systems. We provide a safe, stable foundation paired with wraparound support services that help participants build life skills, strengthen well-being, and create clear pathways to education, employment, and long-term stability.
The problems we’re addressing
Youth of Purpose exists to overcome the barriers that too often cause young people to fall through the cracks during this transition, including:
Housing instability and risk of homelessness: Young people exiting foster care, residential placement, or unstable family systems often lack a safe place to land.
Limited access to trusted, consistent mentorship: Many young people do not have reliable adults or networks to support goal-setting, accountability, and decision-making.
Gaps in financial literacy and economic readiness: Youth frequently leave systems without practical tools for budgeting, credit, banking, saving, and long-term planning.
Barriers to education and employment pathways: Without guidance, transportation, skills training, and support, school and job opportunities can feel out of reach.
Limited exposure to STEM pathways and tech careers: Many youth lack access to hands-on STEM learning, digital skills, and clear on-ramps to high-growth fields.
Unaddressed trauma and mental health needs: Youth may carry complex trauma without consistent access to culturally responsive, trauma-informed support.
Our approach
Through cohort-based programming, Youth of Purpose equips young people with practical tools for financial literacy, STEM education, career readiness, entrepreneurship, and leadership development. Participants receive consistent mentorship, individualized goal planning, and access to resources that support housing stability, mental health, and community connection.
As the Bay Area Hub of Changing Faces Inc., a trusted 501(c)(3) serving youth and families since 1998, Youth of Purpose is grounded in trauma-informed care and proven youth development practices. Our goal is simple and urgent: prevent homelessness, expand opportunity, and help young people build purposeful, sustainable lives—so they can thrive and lead in their communities.
